WINDSOR, ON — After a challenging start to their 2025 League1 Ontario Championship Division campaign, Windsor City FC returns to Acumen Stadium this Saturday, May 10 at 8:00 PM to take on the league leaders, Whitby FC, in what promises to be a high-stakes clash under the lights during Mother’s Day weekend.
The team is determined to rebound from a tough 2-1 defeat against The Borough FC — their first road match of the season — and finally build momentum in front of a home crowd. Head Coach Gabriel Poulino believes the pieces are starting to come together for his squad, despite early growing pains.
“It’s been a slow start, no doubt, but we’re building chemistry with every match,” said Poulino. “We’re still finding the right balance, but I see progress. The focus now is turning that progress into wins.”
Windsor City opened their scoring account for the season with a well-taken goal from Songmafolo Coulibay — a moment the squad hopes will mark a turning point.
“It’s a big confidence booster,” Poulino noted. “It shows the players that we can compete and turn things around quickly. I truly believe we can rally and come back strong.”
Their upcoming opponent, Whitby FC, sits atop the division, undefeated through three matchweeks and showcasing dominant form on both ends of the pitch. But Poulino is embracing the challenge and preparing his side for a potential statement performance.
“Whitby’s had a perfect start, no question — but every team in this league can be beaten,” he said. “We’ve had some tough results, but those matches could have gone either way. If beating Whitby is what sparks our momentum, then that’s what we’ll go for. The players are fired up for this one.”
